Day 1:Vientiane City TourWelcome to Vientiane,Laos’s eclectic capital. With its serene Buddhist monasteries, wide tree-lined boulevards and colorful French architecture;Vientiane retains a timeless charm. Our driver and guide will meet you at the airport or dock and take you to a local restaurant for a delicious lunch of authentic Lao cuisine. In the afternoon visit Wat Sisaket, the oldest temple in the city. Built in 1818,Wat Sisaket is the sole survivor of the 1828 invasion and features remarkable frescoes and more than 10,000 Buddha images.Nearby stands Ho Prakeo, once the loyal temple of the Lao monarchy. Built in 1565,Ho Prakeo was converted into a museum in 1970 and contains some of the finest Buddha sculptures and artifacts in the country. The main structure originally housed the famous Emerald Buddha, which now resides in Bangkok’s Wat Ho Prakeo.
We continue our tour with a visit to Patouxay,Laos’s own “arc de Triumph,” constructed in 1962. Our next stop is the That Luang Stupa, considered the national symbol of Laos and originally built in 1566 by King Sethtathirat. Its central structure is 45 meters tall and echoes the curving lines of an elongated lotus. After lunch, try out your bargaining skills at the Morning Market, before driving to visit the Buddha Park of Xiengkhouane. En route, stop at the Friendship Bridge, stretching over the Mekong River between Laos – Thailand. Return to Vientiane in time to watch the sunset along the banks of the Mekong River.
